Review of Control (2007) by Adam H — 22 Feb 2009
I was expecting more. Control told too much of a story and did not use enough creative elements that one would expect when thinking about a Joy Division film (being in black and white was not enough). Sam Riley had a great performance of Ian Curtis, but the script was lacking depth that Riley could have taken this role to.
There are many very well done scenes that are true to the band's work, but overall the film was a bit dry. I would have rather heard a better band cover Joy Division in the film. The in-film musical performances were just overall not appealing.
A bit of an upset to me.
