Review of Control (2007) by George D — 06 Apr 2010
Very effective at evoking despair and meaninglessness. The problem is that it results in this viewer feeling apathy and disinterest in the life of the main character. I felt I was waiting for him to just do it and get it over with it.
Do we really need to feel these sensations in order to understand a person who probably felt these very sensations? The movie is beautiful, stark, artful, tasteful... but ultimately mostly just.... sad.
I'm glad my brain chemistry isn't too far out of balance and I'm stupid enough to mostly just enjoy life. Time to pull out "Amelie" to recharge my psyche.
