Review of Control (2007) by Jacob R — 06 Jul 2010
I loved Joy Division and have read Deborah Curtis's biography Watching from A Distance so the film contained no surprises whatsoever. Some very good imitations of the band and its music, very nicely photographed, but nothing more than a slightly better than average English film otherwise.
The motif of the laundry pulley didn't need to be dwelt on quite so much, though the implied death of Curtis was far preferable to some sick re-enactment I suppose. Might serve a purpose in popularising the band among younger people.
