Review of Contracted (2013) by Jay R — 01 Apr 2014
It's shocking to see these supposed "film critics" lack the insight to suss any meaning from this horror film. 'Contracted' is a film about a rape. The main character, Samantha, not long sober and vulnerable from recent break-up with her lover, is drugged and raped by an unknown criminal necrophiliac at a friend's party.
We are witness to the aftermath of the rape, as the young, fresh flowery orchid-tending Samantha, withers and decomposes into a zombie; the film depicts the "horror" of her metamorphosis from living to dead.
Like her orchids, she is dying yet nobody can see her. As she self-destructs, she lashes out, hurting those around her. She looks for affection, only to now be considered repellent to the one who was enamored of her before.
Omfg watch it again! Even if E. England had only intended a mind numbing std/sex/horror theme, his film (at least) channelled something bigger in its creation. Very David Lynch-ish. Enjoyed it immensely.
