Review of Contracted (2013) by Kevin D — 23 Apr 2016
There are few, if any, redeeming qualities in this movie, from horror director Eric England.
On a positive note, if you are a Cinema Studies student or film critic, this is and excellent film to watch to show you exactly now NOT to make a movie. Personally, I love and completely understand the draw people get when they see a new gore fest (personally, I still love the original SAW), but this movie is an abomination of anything in the same genre. I wasn't even going to write a review of this film, but I do so as a warning to the viewer.
The acting, and in particular lead actress Najarra Townsend, is so bad that one has to laugh at the outright stupidity of their actions. The dialogue is completely unrealistic to any conversation I've had in real life, and the motivations behind every action on screen is the complete OPPOSITE of what one would do in this situation. It would have made a far more interesting film if we had seen her receive some sort of medical treatment within the 3 day time frame of this film. The direction of this film is one bad scene after another after another and it continues for the entire 1hr 23min run time.
I know some of you might be thinking, 'Oh, but I love B cinema,' but trust me when I say I do too. This is more like D to F grade cinema. What is even more shocking is that they even made a sequel. I did note how similar in plot the movie Starry Eyes (2014) was to this movie, which despite that movie's flaws, is still a much better film by FAR! Save yourself an hour of your life, don't watch this.
1/5.
