Review of Contempt (1963) by Michael H — 24 Jul 2007
I thought that the meditations on the medium of film were great, but the relationship drama left me cold. It was a very interesting film, which opened well, but it didn't succeed in creating any emotional engagement with the characters.
There's some great stuff in there, but the style gets repetitive (track-right-track-left-track-right-etc) and ultimately the whole thing ends up a little distancing and a little dull. Worth a look none-the-less, but it's not a masterpiece.
