Review of Contempt (1963) by Jarrod W — 17 Sep 2007
I realize this is a very important film, for it's overt subversiveness, and the real-life parallel between the producers in the movie and the producers OF the movie, but it's not as entertaining as it should be.
His films are filled with symbolism and stylistic flourishes that are often brilliant but distracting. It's too obvious what he's doing, and I can't get into it. He seems to take a lot of joy in being subversive, which is fine, but I think in doing this he ingores telling a good story.
Also, many will disagree, and this is just a matter of personal taste, but I don't really like his writing or character interactions. So shoot me.
