Review of Contagion (2011) by Jessica M — 30 Nov 2013
"Contagion" is a well done film by Steven Soderbergh that has a stellar cast of actors, fitting cinematography, and a killer soundtrack but ultimately left me desiring more from it. I felt that more could have been done to make the film more accessible and engaging to the audience despite it's firm grip from an emotional level.
The film is also scary in the sense that these viruses have had similar impacts in the past that were devastating and will undoubtedly arise in the future as well. The film has a yellow tint to it and fits the mood of the film with it's visual perspective that captures both the personal behind doors interactions as well as the mass chaos throughout the world outside.
This is a film that once you have seen the source of the virus and the vaccine has been made and the virus controlled, it won't have as much replay value as the tension is felt fully only upon a first viewing.
Soderbergh has done better films, but this is still worth a watch nonetheless for first time viewers.
