Review of Contagion (2011) by The Critic ( — 15 Nov 2013
A bleak and competently produced piece about a pandemic from Steven Soderbergh. The interesting, albeit unoriginal, premise allows for some strong performances from the likes of Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow, but the screenplay doesn't delve deep enough to raise itself above likeminded films as 'Outbreak' (1995) and the excellent, though underrated, 'Blindness' (2008).
By all means, 'Contagion' is worth watching and does satisfy on some levels, but ultimately promises more than it delivers.
