Review of Contact (1997) by Sean C — 26 Jul 2009
Zemeckis is one of the most technically adept directors in Hollywood, here he manages again to seamlessly merge special effects, such as the effects version of Bill Clinton, so that the unreal feels more real.
It also provides more food for thought than most blockbusters with its religion versus science bent and brags a great cast led by the always excellent Jodie Foster although I really can take or leave Mc McConaughey, he adds nothing special for his part and it really could have been anyone playing it.
The film does fall slightly but wanted to push the emotional aspect of the plot whereas a colder approach that say Kubrick, still very much alive at the time, could have given it.
