Review of Contact (1997) by Humberto O — 25 Apr 2013
It could be considered a good sci-fi movie if it wasn't spoiled by a moronic and plain love back-story and all the spiritual garbage. Jodie Foster is perfect in the part of an obstinate and stubborn scientist, so at least this is salvageable.
McConaughey is as horrible as ever, his acting is barely watchable, but it's particularly bad in this movie. He tries to play the spiritual but deeply romantic guy, who will teach a valuable lesson to his love interest, but with a baboon's sex appeal he isn't able to to any of this, the bad quality of the character helping to turn it into an utter disaster.
This movie is worth the special effects, and some of the plot is bearable, but half of this movie is utter trash.
