Review of Contact (1997) by Xelios C — 09 Apr 2015
Despite strong performances by Jodie Foster, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Skerritt and Angela Bassett, this movie has little to offer and was unforgivably devoid of conviction. There should be a complete remake. I gave 3 stars just because of the more-than-skillful acting that made this movie bearable.
The film writers and the director just didn't follow the cue from Carl Sagan's excellent novel and ended up creating a distorted, incoherent and confusing production. The result was a succession of missed opportunities to showcase good science, inconsistencies too numerous to list here and horrible special effects that ended with a storyline that left me completely bereft of any meaningful 'Contact', which was supposed to be, after all, the point of it all!
