Review of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) by Dan E — 29 Jan 2008

The Apes movies, like the later Terminator series, managed to stay somewhat interesting with their cyclical storytelling and "fate or choice?" time travel plots. It's also interesting to watch this movie's violent conclusion as sort of a fantasy version of a race riot.

Of course, this stuff comes of as incredibly heavy-handed when compared to the earlier films. It's actually fairly grim and disturbing for what it is, but not well-made enough to come off as anything but another cheap sequel and a missed opportunity.
