Review of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) by Kathleen M — 19 Feb 2009
This movie definitely breathed some new air into the Planet of the Apes franchise. Roddy McDowall was wonderful as Caesar. I'd even say he's better as Caesar than he ever was as Cornelius (but that probably has more to do with what he was given to work with as Cornelius than his performance).
The concept itself is pulled off very well as Caesar is not just some almighty liberator but also a young, revenge driven young ape. Besides the first Planet of the Apes, this film is probably the best at commenting on the social climate of it's era.
