Review of Confessions of a Superhero (2007) by Cory T — 14 Feb 2008
Confessions of a Superhero is an interesting, all-too extensive look into the lives of people who are, by definition, sad. I very vividly remember seeing these very people on the streets of Hollywood Boulevard last summer, and I thought to myself, "Why are they here?" "What happened to them, or didn't happen to them, to put them in this position of circusing themselves for the superficial, morbid admiration of passer-bys?".
- This film answered my question completely. The stipulation to this documentary, which is wonderfully considered and executed, is the feature-length of it; the story line and background information given on these particular performers does not warrant an hour and thirty minutes of our lives... but Matthew Ogens apparently thinks it does.
This film proves that Hollywood, in the eyes of children or simple naive adults, is a place of wonderment and passion for the phenomenom of the cinema, but it is actually a place of gritty struggles, plagued with the homeless and heartache desperately awaiting their Big Break into the dirtiest business on the planet...
