Review of Confessions of a Superhero (2007) by J D — 24 Jan 2008
A well-done documentary that will leave you with mixed feelings. Is it funny? Is it sad? Is it scary? Are the "superheroes" we meet admirable for pursuing their dreams? Are they deluded? Pathetic? The answer is probably all of the above, but regardless, it's a very compelling, watchable film.
Similar to "Hands on a Hard Body" in that it follows everyday people in an absurd situation. Superman comes off pretty admirable (though after watching the extras he's a bit of a perv), Batman is scary as hell, the Hulk is pretty optimistic in the face of pretty unattainable dreams, and I kinda want to marry Wonder Woman a little.
A great look at those who cling to the underbelly of the dream factory.
