Review of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) by Justin J — 31 Jan 2008
A film before it's time or too slick to be understood in the face of a first time director having huge Hollywood weight? It's understandable how people would turn a nose to something from Clooney where he corrals his friends to perform for little or no money in order to secure his directorial debut. The thing that the people who ousted this film on it's first run did not look to was the solid script, written my master mind of crazy shit Charlie Kaufman, and how solid Clooney would be in his directing.
In every scene, there is a piece of Clooney's movie know and the dissimulation of scenes shows just how fantastically stylist and cutting edge this film was.
Not to mention, the bang on casting job of Sam Rockwell as Chuck Barris was a godsend to make both him and this film a cult legend to mirror the memoir of Chuck Barris.
Now matter how poorly this film did in it's cinema run, it is a masterpiece.
