Review of Conan the Barbarian (1982) by Fred K — 06 Dec 2009
When Arnold's early movies are cited, it is usually Pumping Iron or Terminator that are credited with his arrival on the scene. However, Conan preceded Terminator and I remember the uproar when Conan arrived in theaters given the film's violent nature.
Arnold did a pretty decent job capturing the spirit of Robert E Howard's sullen barbarian, and this movie has some classic lines for any Arnie fan, like: "Conan, what is best in life? To crush your enemies, seem them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women".
That line is a classic when delivered with Arnie's accent. Arnold's other Conan/Red Sonja movies never captured the spirit of this one.
