Review of Conan the Barbarian (1982) by Kevin H — 20 Apr 2009
A sweeping sword, sandal and sorcery epic with great direction from John Milius and a fantastic score from Basil Poledouris, Conan the Barbarian is an excellent film that holds up well even today. James Earl Jones (in a powerhouse performance) kills little Conan's parents and he vows revenge.
Along the way he meets up with a ragtag group of thieves and magicians and eventually overthrows an entire snake cult. Some fantastic imagery and visuals in this film and a strong performance by Arnold in the lead role give this one passing marks.
As a side note, I highly recommend watching it with the commentary track on featuring Arnold and Milius as they are both clearly drunk and having a great time...some fantastic dialogue here.
