Review of Conan the Barbarian (1982) by Daniel V — 24 Feb 2012
Eddie Izzard believes we have lost the meaning of the word Awesome. "Man that hot dog was awesome." "Neil Armstrong, what was it like walking on the moon?" "Well Sir, it was awesome.
" "What, like a hot dog?" While CONAN THE BARBARIAN is not like walking on the moon, but it is Movie watching Awesome. I wish I could back in time and see this movie in the theaters with all the bikers and body builders.
Arnold became a household name with this and then TERMINATOR just two years later sent him into the stratosphere. All the violence and the sex were so necessary to the story, as anyone who has ever read Robert E.
Howard's original stories or any of the amazing Robert Jordan written ones. Of course the sex and blood are tame if one has seen Star's SPARTACUS series, but watching CONAN again proves that they may have been inspired by Arnold's barbarian slave turned warrior than Kirk Douglas and Stanley Kubrick's slave turned rebel warrior.
