Review of Con Air (1997) by Toucan C — 12 Feb 2012
While not the worst film I have seen with Nicolas Cage, it definitely is not the best either. First of all, Cage should be arrested every time he tries to do a Southern drawl because his Alabama drawl in this film was an absolute travesty.
It alone set Southern people back 100 years. What made this film palatable was the action scenes. What made this film good was the cast led by the always amazing John Malkovich. Malkovich was excellent as the sociopath genius Cyrus Grissom.
The banter between Grissom and the Marshal Larkin (John Cusack) was very good and this film needed more of that. The film had some funny lines (Johnny 600 if they knew the truth, every line by Garland Greene (Steve Buscemi)) but it was a typical summer blockbuster film.
Solid but not great.
