Review of Computer Chess (2013) by Paul B — 27 Dec 2013
Set In the 1980s; programmers attend a weekend computer chess tournament set in a hotel to establish which of their programs displays the greatest gaming ability. Filmed in monochrome with the odd bit of colour, Andrew Bujaski directs a fly on the wall documentary style 'retro' movie.
The result is a subtle comedy in which 'geeks' ponder over the nature of artificial intelligence and occasionally mingle with a self actualisation therapy group also staying at the hotel. Oddly surreal and appealing.
