Review of Compulsion (2008) by Martin M — 02 Sep 2009
Strangely compelling tale of mismatched romance and class prejudice. Ray Winstone plays the chauffeur to a wealthy Indian family who is drawn in to a dangerous and unlikely affair with the over-protected daughter.
Just when you're wondering how on earth it can possibly end well, it ends badly, not so much with a twist in the tale as a stab in the gut. The acting wavers and some of the performances are downright amateurish, but then that's probably only by comparison to Winstone, who's the magnetic heart of this film with a perfectly judged performance.
