Review of Compliance (2012) by Jordan F — 23 Jan 2013
Quick Review:
Not bad, was able to make an entire film about the incident.
A film based on the real life story of a terrible crime of sexual abuse. Themed around the power of authority and how a healthy dose of skepticism can be a good thing. I love how the director surrounded the characters with a very real structural problems in our society. The manager is a slave to her corporation and running a fast food joint she has to follow every corporate protocol or else her regional will come down on her like a ton of bricks. It's very realistic with the characters.
The shooting style matched the film well and the score was properly foreboding. All the actors were on the nose with their performances, especially the manager played by Ann Dowd. I love the ending touch with the lawyer also....always trying to cover their ass.
A small niche film that was done very well. Probably not everyone's cup of tea though, hard to watch.
