Review of Compliance (2012) by Jeff B — 06 Sep 2014
A nasty little undiscovered jewel. "Compliance" is utterly shocking and deeply disturbed, but beneath it's bitter and jaw dropping appearance lies an undeniably breathtaking experience. The minimalist cinematography, the flawless performances, the mesmerizing score, the monumentally disturbing atmosphere supported by a even more disturbing story, "Compliance" might just be a masterpiece.
This film will be hated and avoided by the masses but that doesn't make it any less important. It's not at all entertaining, in fact at points you'd wish you were watching something different, but it's sick sexual nature isn't without purpose, it's utterly uncomfortable to watch, but it demands to be watched.
Who said film was just for entertainment? This is quite possibly the most disturbing and hard to watch films I've ever seen. Why? Because of how brutally and unfortunately realistic it is, because of the fact that it's so true to it's inspiration.
Knowing that this actually happened disturbs me a lot more than any gore-fest could.
