Review of Commando (1985) by Kenneth B — 05 Jun 2013
Commando is a lot more tongue-in-cheek than I had bargained for. There is no doubting that the dialogue is terrible, the score is cheesy and many of the action set pieces are ludicrous, for example Arnie steering a car with no engine and no breaks down a bumpy hill and later on leaping of an aircraft as it is taking off.
Arnie's uber-machismo persona is on display from the first shot of his bulging bicep and this film even even cashes in of Schwarzenegger's success with The Terminator the previous year when he utters the words "I'll be back".
Commando is ridiculous but overall it is quite enjoyable and harks back to a time when action films weren't the gore-fests that they have become.
