Review of Coming to America (1988) by Spookie M — 27 Dec 2010
And another Classic Movie. I'm a big Fan of Eddie Murphy's Early Work. All his Movies from the Time of "Beverly Hills Cop". THis is one of this Movies and it's about a Prince from a little Fictional State named Zamunda.
Akkeem (Eddie Murphy) wants to find his future Wife in America and goes ther pretending to be a poor Student. The Story is very romantical and funny and has some really good Love and Comedy Scenes. But there is one bad thing about the Comedy.
Not every gag is really funny and the lovestory has her weird Moments. One of the best Aspects from this Movie are the Characters. The Actors are very well chosen and the performances are quite good. I like the Idea of Eddie Murphy playing a lot of Roles that you didn't notice.
And I laughed when I saw Samuel L. Jackson as a Robber who wants to steel soemthing from the Restaurant Akeem is working at. The hole Atmosphere is really good and I like the Differences of the bright Zamunda and the dark Queens.
The Score is good too. But I found the End to be a bit rushed. I mean 3 Minutes ago Lisa says to Akeem that she doesn't want to marry him and then She is the bright on the Wedding? Hä? Did I miss something? But all in all it's an very entertaining Movie for fans of Eddie Murphy or a good Family Movie Evening.
