Review of Coming to America (1988) by Manicure — 22 Nov 2020
This is one of those harmless, just mildly funny romantic comedies of the ’80s with a predictable plot and cookie-cutter characters. I don’t know why but the humor still kind of works, and there is a playful and genuine atmosphere in the air that still makes it a decent comedy.
The only scenes that seriously felt annoying or unnecessary were the ones with Murphy and Hall try a bit too hard by performing multiple roles, like the Black Awareness Rally or the barbershop trio jokes.
