Review of Coming Home (2014) by Adrian S — 26 Oct 2015
A showboat for legendary Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou and his old muse Gong Li. It also hearkens back to what Zhang does best - human melodrama. Coming Home is a moving study of how love can stand the test of time and sociopolitical turbulence.
The amnesia that the female protagonist suffers from is a fitting metaphor for the obliterative nature of the Cultural Revolution.
