Review of Coming Home (1978) by Patricia A — 08 Jul 2007
One of the most unusual love stories in cinema history, combined with a strong anti-war notion, a great ensemble cast led by an overlooked director who had one of the best human touches of them all. Ashby's death was certainly a big loss to all of his close friends, but also to us moviegoers.
His movies are what we are lacking today. The depth. The feel. The interactions. The atmosphere. The documentarian twist to it. The emotions. Hardly ever have I seen anything more moving and truthful than Fonda, Voight and an almost forgotten Bruce Dern struggling with their handicap(s).
Will leave you sad and thinking at the end.
