Review of Come and Get It (1936) by Daniel P — 14 Nov 2007
Decent Edna Ferber melodrama. Frances Farmer could actually act, at least before she went crazy. The biggest problem - while Edward Arnold is perfectly cast as the millionaire plutocrat in the second half of the film (see also Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and Meet John Doe) he is ridiculously miscast as the young, passionate lumberjack of the first half. They should have hired two actors.
I think this is the only movie I've ever seen where a Swedish character (Walter Brennan) actually says "yumpin' yimminy," without a trace of irony.
