Review of Colossal (2017) by Kurt B — 03 May 2017
So I had to think about this one overnight. It's an Indie and may be hard to find. Only one other Old Geezer Who Goes To The Matinee Alone showed up and he didn't seem to impressed. In thinking it over I'm pretty sure that 'monsters' are metaphorical (or is it allegorical? )for alcoholism.
Ann Hathaway (why do people hate on her?) is a young woman with her life adrift into booze and parties. Jason Sudekis is the home town boy who is obsessed with her fueled by booze and violence. The two seem to control Monsters that are destroying Seoul Korea.
Part funny and mostly very serious the two monsters battle for control of Hathaway's character. Hathaway is very good in this role and so is Sudekis but Austin Stowell in a small role really stood out to me.
You might have to catch this on demand TV as it is not in wide circulation. I recommend it with the warning that it is not a sharply focused movie, but I am still thinking about it, so there's that.
