Review of Colossal (2017) by David H — 06 May 2017
Not bad, not great. A very intriguing idea for a film, but it feels like there were a lot of missed opportunities to really experiment with the idea. The film also suffers from weak character development, where Gloria's main character trait is alcoholism (but with a conscience!) and Oscar suddenly changes from affable small town everyman to arch-criminal boogeyman for no apparent reason.
Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis do what they can and deliver admirable-enough performances, but they just can't overcome the mediocre storytelling.
