Review of Colossal (2017) by Michael S — 17 Sep 2017
It is definitely a weird film, a gloriously self-aware and playful film with a bizarre concept that's well handled to tackle a little thing in life in a gigantic way. It has the hilarious physical comedy, human drama and magic monsters fight all blended to a wildly original and profound movie full of surprises.
The movie desires to tell a familiar story in an unusual fashion, it subversive ambition does challenge the audiences to consider the real issues and life perspective that's happening disorientedly onscreen.
On its low budget, the CGI of the monster and robot are well designed but the story is further a worth ride thanks to the terrific performance of Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis to show their monstrous talent contributing to the best special effects of the film.
Overall, it never forgets what it wants to say, it has a lot of mixed metaphors with hidden surprises and unexpected ending, it may not be a potential box office success but it manages to inspire and fascinate us about inner demon and up to our own options whether to remain or to be a better person.
