Review of Colombiana (2011) by Linda B — 03 Nov 2012
Zoe Saldana, a name that by now should attract a fan base that is growing. After watching the movie "The Losers", I became a fan. Here, she replays a kick-ass intense sexy woman out to kill for revenge for her parent's death; that's where the similarity is obvious. In 'Colombiana' however, there is not one moment of levity, as there was in 'Losers'. Another aspect of the two movies is the great ensemble cast.
The production has familiar character actors such as Jordi Mollà and Cliff Curtis in the roles of Marco and Emilio. They are always good in the tough Latin bad guys; they do not fail to deliver those characters here. The IMDb storyline is brief but to the point and not much else needs to be added in way of plot.
The production is, as another reviewer points out, typical EuropaCorp high-octane action movie. Writer Luc Besson is as familiar name to action movies as there is to movie enthusiasts and the quality production does not lack in any respect. What the movie may lack in originality, it more than makes up in elaborate action scenes and intensity of the actors. No amateur stuff here. I also like that the special effects are in just the right quantity to meet expectations without putting off those who like close up action. Good job period.
