Review of Collateral Damage (2002) by Jesus H — 18 May 2012
Collateral Damage is one of Schwarzenegger's most notorious films, due to its ill-fated timing with the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. The film's story involves a fireman whose wife and child are killed in a terrorist attack, which leads him to track down the terrorists and take the fight to them.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cliff Curtis, Francesca Neri, and Elias Koteas all give good performances; especially Schwarzenegger who delivers quite a demanding performance. Oddly enough, this is one of Schwarzenegger's smarter films, a little too smart actually.
The infiltration of the Colombian guerrillas and the CIA's covert ops get a bit convoluted. But, it pays off with some clever story twists and reveals. And, the film delivers a lot of intense action scenes.
While it has some weaknesses, Collateral Damage is a solid action film that's very entertaining.
