Review of Collateral Beauty (2016) by Jim D — 20 Dec 2016
You ever go to a movie that seems universally panned by the critics, watch it, like it and think, "WTF critics???" Yeah, this is one of those movies. Even now, as I go through the "professional" reviews, I keep thinking, "what movie did these guys see?" While the script holds no big surprises, it does cover some universal themes (the importance of love, the gift of time, and the inevitability of death), that reminds the viewer of living life to the fullest.
Performances are solid, the story hooks the viewer, and the end brings a satisfying "awwww." At its core, the film is standard holiday fare. It may not be an academy award winner, but it deserves far more than what the critics are rating it.
If this sort of movie is your thing, go see it. You'll enjoy it.
