Review of Collateral Beauty (2016) by Ted S — 29 Mar 2017
It's not surprising that the "media" critics panned this film. After all, the media completely missed the suffering and frustration of half our population, as expressed in the last election.
Fortunately, we are entering a post-media era. We no longer need overly educated, financially secure and socially smug esthetes to curate life for us. Through a multiplicity of communications venues and platforms, we can connect directly with each other and share our honest and true feelings.
It's okay to like this film. Just like it's okay to prefer Norman Rockwell's hearth and home over Picasso's abstraction. We don't need the cultural elite to tell us what to like, what to believe or who to vote for.
For them, "art" may be a crucifix in a bucket of urine. For the rest of us, a good Will Smith movie adds warmth and meaning to our lives.
