Review of Collateral (2004) by Mitchell N — 11 Nov 2013
A textbook thriller, Collateral brings nothing new and doesn't need to, fitting the conventions to a tee and never needing to be anything more, mainly due to fantastic starring roles from Jamie Foxx and, in particular, Tom Cruise, who proves that when he gets a role he can sink his teeth into, he is a superb actor.
Along with a supporting cast including Jada Pinkett Smith, Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem, Collateral is really a "claustrophobic thriller", focussing on the interplay between Cruise's villainous hit-man and Foxx's innocent taxi driver, and following their interplay is always a satisfying experience.
Great thriller.
