Review of Cold Weather (2010) by Eric R — 29 Jun 2011
Doug is a rather aimless individual. He just graduated with a degree in criminology/forensics yet he decides to move back to Portland and live with his sister. He quickly finds a dead-end job at an ice factory but when his ex-girlfriend goes missing, his detective instincts take over.
Cold Weather is Aaron Katz follow up to Quiet City is a mumblecore detective story of sorts. The film does take a long time to get started in that Doug's ex doesnt even go missing til about 40 minutes into the film.
Cold Weather has a very interesting tone in that it is suspenseful at times but ops for a much more lighthearted lackadaisical personality which could be off-putting to people wanting something more suspenseful and/or thrilling.
The film's music beats are absolutely perfect throughout the film as Doug and his sister, Gail, search for the truth. Oh, and the ending was pretty much a let down for me.
