Review of Cold Souls (2009) by Matthew G — 14 Aug 2009
I dug the idea. I dug Paul Giamatti. I dug the deadpan, absurdist comedy. But despite all that, I just could not hop on the Cold Soul train. I could not invest myself in the characters, no matter the pith that coated their lines.
The film crawled at the pace of a crippled snail, and as an acquaintance of mine insightfully pointed out, Cold Souls could have been a great short film, but was a bore as a feature film. The film felt underdeveloped, like a weak Kaufman derivative, and could have used a couple going-overs before it was given the green light.
