Review of Cold Souls (2009) by Susan P — 06 Jul 2011
I love Paul Giamatti so much, I don't see John Adams on Flixter but that gets 5 or more stars, fantastic HBO series. He is such a wonderful actor, such a schlubby looking dude with so much emotion just soaking out of him like he was SpongePaul SquarePants.
Anyway, in this film he plays himself, and he can't act in a Russian play, because he thinks his soul is not up to it. So he finds a way to get rid of it and put it into storage. Then it gets stolen by a Russian actress who's a part of a soul mule smuggling operation.
Seriously. Then he takes the soul of a Russian poet, which makes him great in the play but miserable in his life, and he wants his old soul (which looks like a chick-pea) back! It's wacky, hilarious, deep, sad, a lovely blend of weirdness that I enjoyed.
