Review of Cold Souls (2009) by Jinny C — 23 Mar 2010
Cold Souls is a great debut film for director Sophie Barthes. She creates a wonderfully new and entriging story with a great cast lead by Paul Giamatti.
Right off the bat this film reminded me of another thought provoking and creative film Being John Malkovich. Just like in Being John Malkovich the story is centered around an actor who after certain events finds himself in big trouble. of course Cold souls is not as dark and deppressing as Being John Malkovich is but it is still extremly creative and original.
Paul Giamatti does a wonderful job in this movie of evoking almost every different type of emotion from the audience. and does a brilliant job of making his character beliveable. I also truly enjoyed the scenes with Paul Giamatti and Nina (Dina Korzun) they were both emotional and witty.
In conclusion Cold Souls is a great film that is a lot of fun to watch. It has a creative story with an interesting premise, backed up by great acting from the whole cast. along with a script that is not only thought provoking and emotional but very funny at times.
