Review of Cold Mountain (2003) by Kenneth S — 07 Jun 2009
Here is a tricky film to watch. If you wish to enjoy this film, you must only watch it once, and you must really be in the mood to watch it. I loved this film the first time I saw it. The second time, I didn't much care for it, and the third time, I liked it a little bit more than the second time.
The main fault with this film is that there is little to no real chemistry between Jude Law's and Nicole Kidman's characters. The love between them is just not very believable. Plus, the potty humour and gratuitous sexuality are unwelcome additions to an otherwise decent film.
The cinematography is beautiful and the music gives the film a definite feel. Renee Zellweger's Oscar-winning performance is also worth watching the film at least once. Think of this film as Homer's THE ODYSSEY as updated to the Civil War.
