Dialogue a bit overwrought, perhaps to compensate for Nicole Kidman's underwrought facial expressions. Honestly, was all that scenery-chewing in the love scenes meant to make up for the fact that she's almost completely unable to move her eyebrows? Thanks, Botox.
Still, the other scenes were better, and there were some interesting minor characters...I wondered how much of it was based on research into the Civil War South?
