Review of Cold Mountain (2003) by Jillian L — 26 Jul 2012
Basically, this movie tore my heart out and threw it on the ground. It was some heavy material handled exceptionally well by the talented cast and crew. First off, I loved the cinematography. It was interesting to watch and had a lot more too it than typical war movies do.
But to me, this movie belonged to the cast. From Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, and Renee Zellweger all turning in great performances as the main characters, Zellweger especially. But also the supporting cast of characters that Law's character meets on his journey.
This list includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Cilian Murphy, Natalie Portman, Jack White, Brendan Gleeson, and more. Even though all of these characters were only in 10-15 minutes at the most, they made a lot of impact.
The only thing that confused me was the timeline, which was a little muddy in the middle, but I figured it out eventually though. A period movie that is definitely worth the watch for its story and its acting.
