Review of Cold Mountain (2003) by Kevin M. W — 30 Dec 2013

Minghella has been one of my personal favourite directors, but within Cold mountain this Civil War inspired story holds shallow characters with stunning cinematography, striking and graphic war violence, and images of symbolic power.

However, it just cannot make up for the simplistic story and almost automaton based characters. Renee Zellweger's Ruby cannot make up for the excessive length. A rare miss in Minghella's filmography.
