Review of Cold in July (2014) by Michael H — 03 Jun 2014
Jim Mickle's new film is a substantive B-movie that evokes pulpy classics such as Kiss Me Deadly and Detour but for the Hobo with a Shotgun generation. Infusing the music of Drive, The House of the Devil's detailed 1980s production design, and the harsh southern Gothic of Blue Ruin, Cold in July is a wholly original genre film.
If none of these comparisons grab you, nothing will.
