Review of Coherence (2014) by Jason P — 10 May 2018
Mysterious and intriguing, not only does the movie deal with sxiwnce fiction dealing with a comet, but human interactions dealing with friends and the results of their interactions over the years. Is this a drama, a mystery, or is it science fiction? It covers many of those genres.
There are a few loose parts, and assumes that friends will typically become irrational and idiotic under mystery and stress. It also assumes that if something mysterious happens, people will hit the booze like there's nothing in the house left to drink.
While the plot was subtle, the direction was very good. In my opinion, the ending wasn't great; the very last scene being the one that was most perplexing and frustrating. Without spoiling it, I'll just say that if it had ended 10 seconds earlier, it would be a great sign of what one person might do to get the life they always wanted. Those extra 10 seconds at the end made it more confusing to me.
