Review of Code 46 (2003) by Matt M — 19 Jan 2013
Set in a futuristic Shanghai, this film tells the cold thriller of a man and a woman who have violated Code 46, a clear genetic law which forbids incestuous relationships, whether on purpose or accidental.
The film takes itself too seriously despite the fact that it is a mess of imperfection and the plot developments are much too hard to follow. It is the concept of the futuristic world that is compelling and original, with the particular mixture of languages spoken that seems like a wasted opportunity for the foundations of an interesting and original background cultural context.
